I am a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in the assessment and treatment of anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and related disorders, and body image disorders in adolescents and adults. In addition to my private practice, I am Director of Translational Research at the MGH Center for OCD and Related Disorders, Assistant Director of the MGH Center for Digital Mental Health, and an Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School. My clinical and research interests focus on the treatment of body image and OCRDs across the lifespan, including developing and testing treatments, understanding how and for whom treatments work, and improving access to evidence-based care.
I am widely recognized as an expert in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), body image, and obsessive-compulsive and related disorders (OCRDs). I have collaborated on multiple research studies and published extensively on the assessment and treatment of OCRDs and body image disorders, including understudied variants like body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) in adolescents and adults, body dysmorphic disorder by proxy, and olfactory reference syndrome. With Dr. Sabine Wilhelm, I co-lead an online CME course to train clinicians in CBT for BDD. Additionally, I co-developed evidence-based CBT smartphone apps for BDD, OCD, and depression with Koa Health.
I am on the editorial board of the academic journal Cognitive and Behavioral Practice and recently edited a book on ‘Optimizing Evidence-Based Treatment for Body Dysmorphic Disorder’ alongside my colleague Hilary Weingarden. This book is geared toward clinicians who work with BDD. It integrates the latest research and clinical wisdom from leading experts, to cover both foundational elements and nuanced considerations of treating BDD and its variants. I speak frequently nationally and internationally at conferences, meetings, and to patient/family groups, and have been interviewed by multiple media outlets.
I received my PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Rutgers University and completed my pre-doctoral and post-doctoral training at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH)/Harvard Medical School (HMS).
